In this episode of The Internal Shift Show, Debbie Longo speaks with Angell Kelly about burnout, limiting beliefs, spirituality, intuition, personal transformation, and the internal work that completely changed the direction of her life.
Angell shares how she spent years working as a full-time geologist in Canada while living in a constant cycle of overworking, hustling, and attaching her worth to productivity. Although she had already spent years doing inner healing work, improving her finances, relationships, and emotional well-being, she still felt deeply unhappy and disconnected from her career and lifestyle.
Throughout the conversation, Angell explains how limiting beliefs around hard work, achievement, and self-worth kept her trapped in exhausting patterns that no longer aligned with the life she truly wanted. She discusses how journaling, meditation, subconscious work, spirituality, and learning to trust her intuition gradually changed the way she viewed herself and her future.
A major turning point came after her boyfriend proposed during a trip to Greece. That moment created a powerful internal shift where both of them began questioning what kind of life they truly wanted to build together. What started as a dream about restoring a building in Greece slowly became reality through a series of opportunities, connections, and decisions that completely changed their lives.
Within a year, Angell and her fiancé quit their jobs, sold nearly everything they owned, left Canada, and moved permanently to a Greek island to begin restoring a property and creating a slower, more intentional lifestyle. Angell explains that the process required letting go of old identities, beliefs, fears, routines, and patterns that could not come with her into the next chapter of her life.
Debbie and Angell also discuss intuition, mindset, manifestation, faith, emotional healing, limiting beliefs, spirituality, and how people often continue recreating the same struggles until they change what is happening internally first. The conversation reinforces the idea that external change rarely lasts without internal transformation happening underneath it.
This episode explores burnout, self-worth, intuition, personal growth, emotional healing, spirituality, mindset shifts, limiting beliefs, resilience, and creating a life aligned with purpose and peace. It reinforces the idea that the life people truly want is often possible once they stop operating from fear, overwork, and old internal patterns.

Welcome to the Internal Shift Show. I'm Debbie
Longo, Transformational Coach. This show explores
how the way we think, decide, and respond internally
influences where we end up over time. Today's
conversation draws on real experience and expertise
to look at how small internal shifts can change
direction, momentum, and outcomes. We have a
very special guest today, Angel Kelly. Good afternoon,
Angel. Welcome to the show. Thank you for having
me, Debbie. Thank you for being here. So I am
going to ask you today to tell a little bit about
your story and explain a traumatic experience
or just the life change, something that happened
where you were in a negative, you went through
a process and the end result should always be
positive. Now, I do this for a few different
reasons. And one main reason is that everybody
has their own individual story. But there are
things in other people's stories that people
can relate to. And when i hear that i can say
maybe i am in a situation or there's a scenario
in my life that i am in a place where i'm stuck
or unhappy or i don't want to be that way anymore
or my thinking is not correct or i'm not filling
my goals and dreams there's a hundred different
examples of this. If they hear your story and
what happened to you, there's got to be somebody
out there that can relate to that. So if a listener
is listening, then they say, OK, this is what
happened and this is the process. Now they can
see. And then you're going to say your end result.
And now they could see that there's a light at
the end of the tunnel, whereas before they might
not be able to see that. And also a lot of times
people think that things are a lot more complicated
than what they actually are. And also when I'm
going through a process, right, it's like one
step takes me to another step takes me to another
step. And that's the way that a process is. It's
a very gradual thing. So these are some of the
reasons why I have this podcast. But and also
the last thing to the main thing is education,
just to explain that if I'm someplace I could
always get to a different place, because I don't
really believe that there's anything as anything
as such thing. as a negative situation or anything
like that, because that can always be overcome.
It can always be work through and we could always
change that. But that depends on the individual.
That's up to the individual decision and choice
whether they really want to change that or not.
So that's what we're trying to do here. And I
want to try to help people get out of their sick
and suffering and do something different if they
choose to. So if you could do that for me, I'd
appreciate it. Thank you. Love it. Yes. So I
love that the show is called the internal shift
because that's sort of like the truth that I
stand on, which is that our external world, our
circumstances are only ever a reflection of what's
going on inside. So for me, I had been on a spiritual
and healing journey for about eight years, and
a lot of that work was doing this internal shift
work. unblocking, limiting beliefs, subconscious
reprogramming, surrendering to God, all this
sort of stuff. And as I was doing this work,
my life was like starting to realign. Like my
external life was shifting to match the changes
I was making. So this was like money started
to get in a much better situation. I found love,
aligned friendships, happy home life, all this
sort of thing. But the one area that I couldn't
seem to budge was my work, what I was doing for
a living. And at that time, I was a full -time
geologist in Canada. And I wasn't just working
full -time. I was full -time and on call. So
I'd be at the office all day, then I'd be taking
calls all night, middle of the night, weekends
all the time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week
all year. And this was a pattern for me, this
working really hard, hustling, grinding. It had
been going on my entire life. This was just like
the worst version of it. And as much as I wanted
to change the external, like to just quit the
job and find something else, I knew that I had
to make the internal shift first. Because if
I just went out and change the external, I would
probably find myself in the same position in
another job. Because I wasn't changing what was
driving me underneath, which were these limited
beliefs that were saying, hard work. hustling,
doing the most, doing the best, gives me value,
gives me worth. So I had to do sort of this underneath
work before that could shift. So here I am working
away, doing my own inner work. And in May, 2024,
my boyfriend and I, at the time, we took a trip
to Greece on holiday. And while we were on holiday,
he proposed, which was this beautiful, magical.
event in our lives and it really shifted the
energy like something just shifted where we looked
at each other and we were like anything is possible
anything is possible together and so we asked
each other we could create any life we want what
life do we want to create and so we just started
like dreaming big dreams like throwing out the
most random stuff to I'm telling you and one
of those big dreams was oh we could restore one
of these broken down buildings in Greece and
turn it into a hotel and so we named that And
then, wouldn't you know it, God starts to like
usher in the perfect synchronicities, meeting
the perfect people, finding the perfect piece
of property. And we're like, oh, wow, this is
really interesting. But let's go back to Canada
and see if it sticks, because I'm pretty sure
everyone listening can think of a time that they
went on a trip and thought, I'm going to move
here. And then they go home and they go back
to their lives. So that was us. We go home, we
go back to our lives. But it stuck. It stuck.
We started to make a business plan. We started
to have meetings with new friends we'd made in
Greece. And fast forward exactly one year later,
we quit our jobs, sold everything, and moved
across the world from Canada to a Greek island.
And now we live these beautiful, aligned lives.
Our restoration project's underway. Life is much
slower, much quieter, at a much more beautiful
pace. I would account that to the internal work
being done before any of this could ever take
place. That was very good. Thank you. So when
you were going through this process, let's say
before you started the internal work, what made
you decide to start this? Was there an event?
Was there a decision? Was there a thought? What
what was it something in your life? What really
made you say because Like I think that I'll just
say for myself. I think that when I remember
when I was smaller I knew that life Didn't have
to be like hard like difficult But I don't know
if I knew anything about like that like inner
work or spiritual So that might be something
that would have to be learned Maybe it depends
on the person, I don't know. But I'm just saying
that if it is, right, if a person doesn't know
that, let's say a person doesn't know that or
they don't know what it means or anything, how
did you come to that decision, that thought,
that realization that you even needed to do it?
How did that start? Yeah, yeah. Well, like I
said, it was sort of the work I had been doing
for years up to that point. And so if I were
to scroll all the way back to before I even had
any sense of doing the inner work, it was a time
where I was at a rock bottom. I couldn't find
a job. I was single, unhappy, broke, all the
things. And I was doing everything I could to
try to control the external. I was applying for
jobs every day. I was networking. I was going
on dates. I was doing everything out here and
it wasn't working. It was not working. So at
some point or another, I whether God gave me
the idea or what, at some point or another, I
knew I had to go in within because going outside
of myself wasn't working. I was not getting results.
And when I turned within, and at that time it
was simple practices like journaling and meditating,
the basics, when I started, I actually started
to get results on the external. And so it was
really just sort of like a trial and error approving
to myself what works and what doesn't. Got me
to the point where I was like, okay pass for
whatever eight years later and I'm unhappy in
my career I knew the one person that could change
that was me was me going inward to my practices
Yeah, that was good. So it sounds like an intuition
kind of thing where you just knew that was your
path Like you said when you move to the Greek
islands and you you change your life to go there,
quit your job. So it sounds really like you just
knew your path and you followed it. Yeah. And
certainly like this particular jump all the way
across the pond was certainly guided by God and
my intuition. It wasn't I just pointed on a map
and thought, I'm going to live here. Never in
a million years did I think I would live in Europe,
Debbie. Never. Yeah. So I want what I want to
say is a little bit advanced, but I'm going to
say it anyway. One of the things I teach is that
the mind controls the body. And not only does
it control my thoughts because the action has
to be created by a thought. So first I have a
thought that could create a belief or a decision.
I make a decision and then the action is really
the last thing. And then I do the action. I can
control because I'm a human being. So I'm in
control of my thoughts and my actions. We're
not robots. I can make my own decisions. Nobody
forces anybody to do anything. I'm ultimately
going to decide myself exactly what I want to
do, what I want to say every day. And these are
the choices that I make. This is just one example.
We're talking here about your process, right?
Then from the negative to the positive and your
thinking, your thought pattern and how that changed
from when you were at your rock bottom to now.
This this this whole thing that we described
so far. So a lot of people like a lot of people
that I've helped to and I'm just saying from
a lot of years experience doing this work is
that what I think is going to come true. So if
I don't think and we also have this thing that
I really don't want to get into too much, but
it takes me to a manifesting part of a thing.
So if I think that I'm never going to find a
job. So I'm looking, oh, they tell me, oh, I
have to find another job. I don't like my job
or I'm not making enough money, whatever. I go
online and I do everything I gotta do. I look
on the websites, I do everything. I make the
resume. And as I'm going through everything,
I say to myself, I'm not going to find a job.
I'm not going to find a job. So even if I put
while I'm doing everything I'm supposed to do.
So even if I put that footwork in, I'm telling
myself this whole time that I'm not going to
find a job. Am I going to find a job? Of course
not. Probably not. I would add even further,
like the belief that's operating underneath,
because sometimes we can like paint on it. a
positive affirmation, be like, I'm going to find
a job. Today's the day. And we can really like
we can smear that on the surface all we want.
But if the belief operating underneath is I'm
not worthy, I'm not good enough, I can't. It
doesn't matter. You are not going to find one.
Yeah. And that's the process of me changing my
mindset for me to get to make a decision. And
that's going to create a belief. And then that
will allow me to take the action. So if I'm thinking
something and the action is different, then that
doesn't match up. And when it comes down to it,
it's like, who are we being? Are we being? Was
I being a woman who has to be super productive
all the time, work, work, work? Or am I being
a woman who knows her value and can slow down
and is still valuable even if she slows down?
Who are you being? And who are you being? Your
life is going to match whoever you're being.
And that's why I'm saying that's the part of
the process. So to me, like we're talking about
this one topic, but to me that to get to this
point or to get to any point that I want to get
to, there is a certain process, right, that I
have to go through in order to get to that point.
But if I'm just all over the map and let's say
I don't get help or anything, I'm a coach, but
I don't... This is not a promotional podcast.
I'm not trying to promote myself. I explained
in the beginning a whole intro about what this
podcast is about. So if I'm all over the map
and I don't get help, which is also something
I want to ask you, but I don't do anything to
come to that way of creating this process, right?
So I could get the proper result. And I think
maybe I think I'm a therapist or I think I'm
a coach or or I do self help or I watch a video
or something like that. And then I form this
whole thing in my head. And that is not the process
that's going to take me from one point to the
other. So if I want to go to my friend's house,
I say, how do I get there? What's your address?
What's your address? Do you I need like special
instructions or something? Do you like live in
a community? And she tells me how to get there.
So I'm pretty sure that if I follow her way,
I will get there. But if I say, oh, I don't want
to go that way, I'm going to go this other way
and then I'm going to say different streets or
whatever. Is there a good chance I'm going to
get there? Yeah, probably not. And the tricky
thing about the tricky thing about doing what
we know is what we know has gotten us to where
we are. And so if we want to get to a reality
outside of where we are and we're trying to use
our own mind and what we know, that's going to
be tricky. You need some inspiration. At least,
at the very least, you need to not be guided
by the mind, but be guided by something more
creative like the heart. But yes, that's where
you get these wonderful podcasts. You've got
books. You've got coaches. I mean, we have resources
that people like my mother and grandmother could
never dream of. It was just all books then. For
me. It was just all books, but I'm just saying
we in the past, but now we have the Internet
and everything. So we talked about you explained
a little bit about your process and how you got
to where you are now. What was your thinking?
What did that look like when you were going through
the transition of that year where you were? quit
your job and you did whatever you needed to do
to go to get to your island there where you live
now. What did that process look like and how
did you get to this point? Oh, it was scary.
I'll tell you that. At first, it was a lot of
like planning that didn't involve any commitment.
So that was easy to do. Still had my job. He
still had his, but. Finally, the day came where
it was like, OK, now we start to make big changes.
The first one for me being quitting my job, a
job that was paid very well for and that would
take me to retirement that I was well loved at,
all that sort of thing. And to quit a job and
not totally know where we were going to end up,
because you can try to plan Greece, but that's
you can't plan Greece from across the world.
You've got to go and see if it's going to work
out, you know. And so It all, it started to be
these, I had to let go of the things that couldn't
come with me into the reality I wanted to create.
And this is a part, this is a huge part of where
you want, when you want to make change, you must
be willing to let some things die, let some things
go. They will feel sad and bittersweet and scary,
but it is a huge part of it. Because if you try
to hold onto them and take them with you, you
won't go, you won't go. They'll drag you down
like a... So my process was really just knowing
I have a strong trust in God and strong trust
that I am guided. And I knew when the time was
right to start letting go. And first it was the
job and then it was letting our house go. Then
it was selling everything we had. Then it was
saying goodbye to everybody. It was scary to
me, but I have such faith and trust in God that
And that always every time I do that, every time
I surrender over to God, I get the most beautiful
result beyond what I could imagine. So it is
always worth it. Very nice. Yeah, that was very
good. So how do you feel today, right now, based
on everything that we just talked about this
whole entire podcast? How do you feel right now?
Thank you for asking that question, because it
almost makes me want to cry because I feel really,
truly grateful for Just even being able to talk
about this today helps me to see where I've come
from and the lives we live. I have purposely
built every inch of my life here consciously
and in alignment because Debbie, you take you
with you. So whatever patterns you had in the
last country you lived in, you will just create
them here. And so I had to be careful to not
bring that highly productive, super busy girl
here. And I had to let her die and stay in Canada.
And thankfully I was able to do that. And now
life is just, it just keeps getting better somehow.
I've created a business that is beautiful and
aligned. We've met wonderful people. The food,
the lifestyle, the quality of life. We're getting
married in a month. There's a lot to celebrate
and be grateful for. And somehow... it actually
keeps blossoming and growing. Somehow it keeps
getting better. Very good. Thank you. That was
very positive. So that was a good way to close.
And also in closing, I would like to say that
hopefully there is somebody that out there that
can relate to any part of this podcast at all.
And a lot of times it's the identification of
the thing, the situation, whatever it is, right,
that we want to be able to see and know because
if my life is not good and there is just even
a small part that I'm unhappy with, that life
can always be better. My life can always get
better every single day, every single minute.
And if there is something that I'm feeling that
I don't like right now, I could say, forget about
the past. I'm not interested anymore. I could
put my foot down and say this second today is
the day that I'm going to make this change because
I don't want to be this way. I don't want to
act this way. I don't want to look this way.
Whatever the situation is, you know, because
if I keep making changes and I keep working towards
my goals and dreams, right, or looking to improve
myself, let's just say, for example. What's going
to happen? I'm always going to move forward in
a positive direction. And that's just going to
keep me being more positive and more positive.
But if I go backwards and I'm in a negative towards
a negative direction, what's going to happen
then? That's going to keep me becoming more negative
and more negative. So this is your choice. This
is the individual's choice. This is the listener's
choice. Which way do they want to go? Now, I'm
all for being positive, obviously, but that's
up to the individual what they want to do. Yeah,
and I mean, really, if there's one thing I hope
people take from my story, it's that the life
that you want to live, you can live that life.
All that's standing in the way... are these limiting
beliefs, these blocks, but those can be worked
through. Like you talked about, like I talked
about, you can work through those. And on the
other side, you can have the life you dream of.
You absolutely can. Yeah. That was good. Thank
you. I really appreciate that. So as we close
this conversation is a reminder that progress
really comes from one big decision, but from
the internal choices we repeat. If something
from today's discussion connected with you, take
a moment to notice how those internal choices
showed up in your own life. This has been the
Internal Shift Show. Thank you for listening
and thank you, Angel, for being on the show.
I appreciate it. Thank you so much.
