Welcome to the Internal Shift Show. I'm Debbie

Longo, Transformational Coach. This show explores

how the way we think, decide, and respond internally

influences where we end up over time. Today's

conversation draws on real experience and expertise

to look at how small internal shifts can change

direction, momentum, and outcomes. We have a

special guest today, David Nassif. Good afternoon,

David. Welcome to the show. Hi, Debbie. Thank

you for having me. I'm thrilled to be here with

you today. Thank you for being on. I would like

to talk a little bit today about where you were

and what happened in your life and what is the

result of that? What positive results? So if

you want to tell us a little bit about your story

and like, for example, the accomplishments that

you've made and your goals and dreams that you've

set. In the beginning, you were here, and then

you got over the hump and you are here now. Well,

the beginning was kind of rough, I'll be honest

with you, Debbie. I was 63 and I just got fired

after 18 years with the same company. I would

not wish that day on anybody. The math was brutal.

When I analyzed things, if I drained all of our

savings and all of our retirement, we'd be broke.

by 65. And at this point, I'm thinking, who is

going to hire me at my age? Now, this is the

hardest part. Driving home, all I could think

about is, how am I going to tell Mary? We've

been married for 30 years. She did not deserve

the mess I just threw our life into. I felt like

the biggest loser. I'm just being frank with

you driving home that day. So after a couple

months of dead end job searching, I decided to

take a huge risk. And I went to work as an independent

sales agent. on straight commission. No salary,

no safety net. The first months were absolutely

brutal. Cold calls, I was getting constant rejections,

rookie mistakes. It was just everything that

could go wrong, seemed like it was going wrong.

But with all those rejections that came about,

I felt like I was starting to develop more of

a mental muscle. Sometimes resistance, I think,

is good for you, okay? So anyways, I was developing

this mental muscle and about 10 months after

this, I achieved what I thought was really a

milestone, and I was suddenly making now more

money than my good paying corporate salary. And

for a very few seconds, I thought to myself,

all right, we've made it. But unfortunately,

reality set in. I realized we had saved nothing,

and making money was not enough. I need to learn

how to invest and save. So I couldn't waste time

with a bunch of complicated theories on investing

and all that kind of thing. So I just dug into

myself and I just started researching and I created

this one page wealth compass with a set it and

forget it approach. Six years later, at the age

of 69, I achieved what I thought was impossible

from terrified of being broke to a seven figure

portfolio in real financial freedom. So Debbie,

I now understand something. That it's never too

late because if I can pull that off starting

as late as 63 Anybody can with the right direction.

Yes, and that was very good. Thank you So you

started later in life and you had a career and

then you changed your career later in life and

a lot of people i've worked with people that

have been through this and like you said Who's

going to hire me at this age? But age is just

a number It doesn't really mean that much. It

goes by, how do I feel mentally? And how do I

feel inside? And do I know that I could accomplish

my goals and dreams, whatever they are? And not

only that, if I don't have a job, then, you know,

I need to put food on my table and eat, you know,

and put ants in my bar, my family. So those are

basic and shelter. But you still, regardless

of that, right, because you could have sat home

and said, poor me, poor me, and said I'm old

and I can't find another job. And you could have

sat in that and not done anything. Instead, you

didn't do that. So this is a very, very good

experience that we're talking about here. So

how did you specifically accomplish this? And

how did you get to where you are today? And how

do you feel about your life today? Well, first

of all, not to harp on the 65 thing, because

this is true for any age, but I just happen to

be 63. I mean, when people say it's too late,

that is such a lie. I believe that lie. That

day I got fired, Debbie, I'm going to be honest

with you. I'm being transparent. I believe that

lie. I thought it's too late for me. I blew it

and I was ashamed, I was embarrassed, I was humiliated.

And then I realized something as I started to

just pick myself up is that, wait a minute, it's

not so much about how much time you have left.

It's really more about how you use that time,

whatever that amount of time is that you have

left. And so, so many people at my age would

would panic and they'd either get in maybe high

risk investments because they got to catch up

and then ends up tragically or they get so conservative

they can't even keep up with inflation so they

go backwards i took a different path i said to

myself wait a minute i need to figure this out

and i created what i call this one page wealth

compass because i want to if it can't fit on

one page i didn't want to do it i just i needed

to simplify it simplify it so i because i was

needed to do other things too other than just

think So I simplified it on one piece of paper.

What it did is it kept me focused on boring,

unsexy, proven principles that work. And that

made all the difference for me. As a result,

my portfolio started doubling. In some years,

my portfolio increased greater than my gross

annual income. And I was making really good money

now with this new company of mine. And when that

happens, it stops feeling like catching up. And

now it starts feeling more like real freedom.

And there's not a person on the planet that can't,

if they choose to navigate in a more effective

way, that can't turn things around no matter

how impossible they seem. Because my situation

would seem pretty impossible, I'll be honest

with you. I mean, I think a lot of people, to

me, just from my experience, do go by their age.

Because at any point, you're absolutely correct.

What you're saying is 100 % correct. Because

at any point, somebody could be changing jobs

or get fired or get asked to leave at their job

or whatever. And they know that that part of

their life is over, is now, now they have to

make a decision to change, to do something different,

maybe go on a career path, a different career

path, whatever the situation is. But to me, just

my experience, a lot of people think about that

it does have to do with age. But the point is

that You know, we're not specifically talking

about this, like you said, but the point is that

what is the positive result, the end result,

the end game? What happened to you and how are

you happy now and how happier are you than you

were before based on everything that you've said?

Because when I, as I get, as I grow in my life,

I gain experience. And some of that experience

is negative and some is positive. The idea is

to not continue with that negativity or to turn

that into a positive or just get rid of it somehow

and just try something different. So that's my

question because we want the end game. We want

the end results, right? That we're talking about

here. What the topic that we're focusing on.

And then we want the end result to What is the

positive in that? And how could be how you're

happy? It could be financially happy, just happy

yourself. Sure. Well, I'll tell you, on that

day I got fired. Like I said, that was the worst

day of my life or my career. OK. But what the

funny thing is, Debbie, looking back on it now,

it was the best day of my career because I did

not have the courage. I did not have the guts

to quit my job. and do what I did. And I'm ashamed

to admit that, but I didn't. I needed to be nudged

out of the nest. That company that fired me did

me the greatest service. To this day, I don't

talk one word bad about them. In fact, I'm grateful.

I'm grateful for that situation. And what it

did for me, it gave me a kind of freedom that

is so... much beyond money. I mean, money is

really good. I'm not going to downplay that because

it's much better to have money than not, okay?

But it was so much better because I took this

compass concept I have on putting the principles

on one page and the tools on one page and I used

in other areas of my life. For example, when

I was in my mid -50s, this is before that, I

went to the doctor and he says, David, you have

cholesterol of 235, we need to put you on statins

immediately. And I said, wait a minute, let me

go and do a little research. He did not want

to hear that. He gave me this story about how

his father died. And if he only had statins,

he had lived, blah, blah, blah. I said, okay,

I'm not arguing with you. I'm just, let me give

some research. I did some research, Debbie, and

you know what? Within 90 days, I got my cholesterol

from 235 to 175, which is below what the standard

thing of 200 is. I went back and I want to tell

him, I want to tell him, I say, he didn't want

to hear it. He didn't want to hear it. If it

wasn't a prescription, he didn't want to hear

it. So my compass, my health compass I have now

today, it gives me freedom. I mean, I don't have

to rely on just doctors. I'm not putting doctors

down. They're good people, but I need to be in

charge of my own life financially, health -wise,

spiritually, and that's what the One Page Compass

gives me in different areas of my life. And that's

the kind of freedom, Debbie, that I wish for

everybody because it's just, it's so much more

than one category of your life. Yeah, that was

very, very, very good. And I agree with that

100%. And hoping that there is somebody out there

that is listening to this podcast that has had

even one of these experiences that we're talking

about can relate to one of the things that we

spoke about here. Because like I said, these

to me from my experiences are very, very common.

scenarios. These are very common things that

a lot of people deal with in their everyday life

or making a major change, whatever the case may

be. And I don't want it to be something where

people have to sit in that. I want them to know

even whether they do it or not is not up to me.

But I want them to know to understand that there

is a way out. There's another way. that they

can do it. They don't have to be the way that

they are and sitting in their negativity. If

they're happy, that's fine. They probably won't

be listening to this podcast. Everything is perfectly

fine when nothing is wrong. But if they are,

then something is going on or they're just curious.

So this was this was definitely definitely a

very good conversation. Is there anything that

you would like to say in closing about anything

that we've spoken about? Yes, Debbie. I have

the actual OnePage Compass that took me from

63 being broke to 69 to where I am now. And I
